Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School DECA students gathered in the cafeteria after school for the monthly DECA social on Wednesday, Nov. 13. Socials are events at which DECA members spend time with each other while completing different activities.
Attendees participated in an afternoon of cookie decorating and giving back to their community in the cafeteria. Students said they were delighted with the social and had fun working on the tasks at hand, which included writing cards to Holocaust survivors.
“I enjoyed the November social a lot,” sophomore Hailey Glasglow said. “It was very exciting to write cards for the survivors of the Holocaust.”
This month’s event focused on DECA chapter projects, which are student-run groups within the DECA program focused on specific causes, such as MSD We Remember. Students, like Glasglow, partook in special activities focused around the chapter projects. Students also made dog toys in a project for the DECA Chapter Paws for a Cause.
Community service projects were not the only focus of this social. Participants enjoyed eating snacks and playing games.
“We played ping pong and table tennis with fellow members of DECA,” sophomore Avantika Prabhu said. “And we ate some really good cookies.”
Officers of the club supervised the activities the social had to offer.
“I am helping DECA members engage in different activities such as bracelet making, coloring, trivia and cookie decorating,” director of website Ashley Rogalla said.
From making dog toys to playing ping pong, the event had a lot to offer. The December social is soon to be announced on the MSD DECA Instagram.
