On Sunday, Dec. 10, Marjory’s Garden hosted a dog wash at Barkland Dog Park in Parkland from noon to 4 p.m. Students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and staff from A La Mode Canine, a grooming company who donated their time to clip the dog’s nails, volunteered at the fundraiser.

The cost was $10 for a wash, $10 for nail clippings or $12 for both services together. The dog wash included a wash, dry and brush through. The washes were 15 minutes long, and the nail clippings were about 10 minutes for each dog.

Marjory’s Garden is a community garden at MSD that strives to encourage students to get involved in gardening and sustainable living, as well as taking care of the Earth.

Projects the garden has done in the past include installing solar panels to power the garden, adding garden beds for plants and evening out the land. Marjory’s Garden also has a hydroponics setup, which is a subset of hydroculture, the method of growing plants without soil and using mineral nutrient solutions in a water solvent.

The dog wash was held to raise money for the future projects in Marjory’s Garden. The club raised about $400 from the dog wash and felt very successful as a result.

“I am thankful we did this fundraiser. I feel that it was something out of the ordinary, and we raised a good amount of money for our future projects,” Marjory’s Garden president Lexi Smith said.

With the money raised at the dog wash, Marjory’s Garden plans to create benches, begin growing produce in the garden beds, implementing hydroponics and beautifying the garden.
