[Brief] Men’s varsity basketball plays first home game against Coral Glades High School

On Tuesday, Nov. 28, the men’s varsity basketball team played their first game of the season against rival Coral Glades High School. The final score was 76-71, MSD’s way of ultimately protecting the nest.

“It was a harder game than we thought it would be but I think we all played as a team and did well,” junior Preston Sasser said.

The game’s leading players consisted of Preston Sasser (25) scoring 14, Travis Julmice (3) with 11 points, Nick Haley (12) with 10 points and Tyler Gilkin (10) with 10 points.

“I love how my kids played with a lot of passion and the energy from the kids in the crowd kind of helped feed the guys and made them play hard. I was just overall pleased with how hard the guys played,” basketball coach Orlando McCorvey said.

With McCorvey and MSD students cheering on the sidelines, players were motivated to give the game their all.

“The amount of people who showed up was crazy. The game was intense and got really close, but I knew we were gonna take home that win,” senior Giovaan Aubry said.

The men’s varsity basketball team has their second game on Friday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. at J.P. Taravella High School.
