[Brief] Women’s cross country team places first at Markham Park meet

On Sept. 26, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School’s women’s cross country team had a meet at 4:00 p.m. at Markham Park. They competed against West Broward High School, Blanche Ely High School, Everglades High School, Miramar High School, Pines Charter High School, J.P. Taravella High School and Western High School. The team placed first out of all the schools with a total of 30 points.

“Overall, it was a successful meet,” sophomore Monique Miquel said. “We are going to keep trying to improve our times at our next meet.”

Junior Jesika Van Welie placed third with a time of 23:03.0, followed by captain Alyssa Fletcher placing fourth with a time of 23:05.0. Junior Gabby Rumasuglia placed fifth with a time of 23:09.0. Junior Kayla Sanseverino placed sixth with a time of 25:10.0. Sophomore Monique Miquel placed 12th with a time of 27:58.0.

The next meet will be held on Oct. 3 at Tradewinds Park at 4:00 p.m.
