[Brief] Women’s JV basketball wins first game after Winter break

On Wednesday, Jan. 10, the lady eagles junior varsity basketball team played in their first home game back from break. They defeated Flanagan High School with a score of 43-37.

Leading the team, Kristina Longley (34) scored 18 points, with Sammy Fisher (4) behind her with nine. Sephora Bazile (55) continued their momentum with 6 points, followed by Mackenzie Alt (30) with 3, Zareyah Simpson (14), Chelsea Watts (24) and Madison Goodman (32) each with two points and Nikki Bruner (3) with one. With 10 seconds left in the game, Fisher blocked a shot from Flanagan and made a layup to end the game.

“Everyone was nervous because the game was ending, and we played so well the entire game and didn’t want to give up our hard work,”  Fisher said. “The other team shot a 3 with 10 seconds left, and I blocked the shot, ran down the court and finished the game with a layup. We were all so proud of our win and how close we have gotten.”

The lady eagles’ next game will be on Friday, Jan. 12 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. They will be taking on Coral Springs High School.
