Stoneman Douglas varsity football team storms Cypress Bay and leaves with a win

On Friday Aug.30, the Stoneman Douglas Eagles were supposed to field their first home game of the year, but yet again were forced to cancel their home opener.

Going into this week the team had to shift gears and focus on their Sep. 6 opponent, the Cypress Bay Lightning.

This week’s game was another opportunity for the Eagles to pick up a road win and add to their undefeated record, and they did just that.

Getting out in front with two first-quarter touchdowns, the Eagles mounted a large lead, settling in 20-9 at the half. MSD also posted another handful of scores and pulled out the win, 30-16.

Despite being early in the year, this victory is a sign that the Eagles have intentions to win big this year and surpass all expectations set for the season.

“Our team goal is to go to the playoffs and win the district championship because that has never been done here and we want to be the first group to do that.”  said junior linebacker #30 Fenthon Aristhomene. “Winning the game was a step in the right direction. We have to focus a lot on beating the teams that are in the district as well,”

The undefeated Eagles come home to host the also undefeated Monarch Knights at Cumber Stadium this Thursday, Sep. 12 at 7:00 p.m. Since this should be the new home opener for Douglas, look for a packed crowd and a big game against this in conference rival.
