MSD men’s soccer team’s strong defensive effort leads to shut-out win over Nova High School Titans
January 6, 2022
On Tuesday, Jan. 4 the MSD men’s varsity soccer team went head-to-head against the Nova High School Titans.
The Eagles came out firing as they quickly came to a 2-0 lead. Almost every time the Titans got the ball, the Eagles would play suffocating defense and surround the ball at all times. On the other hand, the Titans never pushed the ball or improved their defensive line to keep up with MSD’s pace. This led to many more scores for MSD later on in the game.
“I feel like we played amazing defense and even better offense,” defender and forward Robbie Alhadeff (8) said. “Whenever we got a stop on defense, we went and shot the ball a lot on offense.”
A heavy amount of shots pressured the Titans’ defense, as MSD added onto their lead by halftime, making it 4-0 going into the second half.
“I feel that myself and the team played amazing, we played great defense and great defense leads to great offense, and it showed,” midfielder Coby Alhadeff (27) said.
As MSD won the possession battle in the first half, they quickly got the ball back to start the second half. MSD was getting many shots off but were not hitting the target. Nova could not get a shot off because the Eagles maintained great defense. MSD took a shot from outside the box and scored, making the score 5-0.
Alhadeff (8) scored a goal to extend the lead to 6-0. Forward Lucas Balaban (5) scored a seventh goal right after their last goal and the score moved to 7-0.
With under five minutes left in the game, forward Geordan Yuan (9) scored an eighth goal to end the game with the whole MSD team celebrating after blowing out the Titans.
The Eagles will play their next game on Wednesday,January 12 at 7 p.m. at home against Coral Glades High School.
