Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift announced on Instagram on Thursday, Dec. 10 that she is dropping her new album, “Evermore,” at midnight, which is three days away from her 31st birthday.
“Evermore” will be Swift’s ninth album and will serve as a sister album to her “Folklore” album that was released on July 24. Swift states in an Instagram post that her 31st birthday had a lot to do with her creating her “Evermore” album. Swift explains in the same post that ever since she was 13, she dreamed about turning 31 because it is her favorite number backward.
“I am so excited to see what Swift’s album has in store because it might be better than other albums,” Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School freshman Vivana Fernandez said.
Swift surprised her fans with the new album by posting a series of photos on Instagram before dropping the album’s cover and tracklist. This is a tradition Swift does with her fans to let them know a new album is coming.
“I was surprised when I heard Swift was coming out with an album because I didn’t even know she was making another album,” freshman Amaris Ruddock said.
Swift also revealed that she will continue working with songwriters Jack Antonoff, Aaron Dessner, Justin Vernon and William Bowery, also known as Swift’s boyfriend, on her new album that is being released.
“I’ve never done this before. In the past, I’ve always treated albums as one-off eras and moved onto planning the next one after an album was released. There was something different with ‘folklore.’ In making it, I felt less like I was departing and more like I was returning,” Swift said in an Instagram post on Thursday, Dec. 10.
Swift’s album will be 15 songs long and will have two bonus tracks on the deluxe physical edition. She continues to surprise her fans by further stating in an Instagram post that the music video for “willow” drops on Dec. 10 at midnight eastern time.
