Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School’s drama department is hosting their spring show, “Head Over Heels,” on March 9 and 10 in the John Rusnak Auditorium. The shows will begin on both nights at 7 p.m., and are open for students, staff and community members to watch.

Auditions for the musical were held during the week of Aug. 16, 2022. “Head Over Heels” features a multitude of MSD drama students such as Pearl Mass, Logan LaPierre, Adriana Peña and Nick Bedusa who star as lead characters Pamela, Musidorus, Philoclea and Pythio, respectively.

“The responsibilities I have in Head Over Heels are to learn all of my dances and harmonies,” Ensemble performer and sophomore Melissa Azzarito said. “The rehearsal process has been really new for me because this is my first year in Douglas Drama, and although I did the fall play, the rehearsal process for a musical is very different because we have to learn songs and dances. It’s just been a crazy experience.”

“Head Over Heels” is a musical based on the play, “The Arcadia” by Sir Philip Sidney. The show features a variety of songs written by “The Go-Go’s.” The play follows a royal family, whose lives mirror the tragedy of “Romeo and Juliet,” as two protagonists’ love is rejected by their parents. Along the way, they go on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth. By the end of the performance, the characters grow to understand their gender and sexual identities.

Tickets are for sale online and are available for $15 for all audience members, with a discounted price of $8 for drama students.
