On Saturday, April 1, Marjory Stoneman Douglas will be hosting Relay for Life on campus from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Created by the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life is a fundraiser as well as a community based walk event to raise money to help save lives and help communities fight against cancer. The mission of Relay for Life is to save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the fight for a world without cancer.

The relay will begin at 4:40 p.m. with the opening ceremony and will end with a closing ceremony at 9:00 p.m. Many different performances and activities will also occur during the relay, such as Chicago Medley Performance and Jazz Band Performance.

The theme of the relay this year is Hollywood. Food will also be available for purchase throughout the entire event.

Many clubs from MSD will be participating in the relay along with other participants, such as Key Club and DECA. These clubs have also participated in last year’s Relay for Life which was also hosted at MSD.

At 8:15 p.m., a luminaria ceremony will be held to remember those lost to cancer and reflect on the journey of those who have survived. When the sun begins setting, participants will light pre-made luminaria bags that have been made to honor a loved one who has passed from cancer.
