Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School hosted its Homecoming Spirit Week from Monday, Sept. 16 to Friday, Sept. 21. The week featured a variety of themes for students to engage in, encouraging school spirit and community participation.
Students were encouraged to dress as their favorite musicians or movie stars on “Megastar Monday,” kicking off spirit week. On “Winning Team Tuesday,” everyone was prompted to wear their favorite sports attire. Students could participate in the colorful “Grateful Dead at the Sphere” event on Wednesday, which honored tie-dye clothing, followed by a carnival and petting zoo in the courtyard when school ended. On “Throw it in Thursday,” students were allowed to bring any object to school that is not metal to substitute their backpack.
The week culminated on Friday, known as “4 of a Kind Friday.” To express their school spirit, students from each class wore different colors to the pep rally and football game. Seniors wore black, juniors red, sophomores blue and freshmen green. The Homecoming Dance will happen on Saturday night, Sept. 21, from 7-11 p.m. at the Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort.
Homecoming Spirit Week was spearheaded by leadership students, with committees set up to ensure everything ran smoothly throughout the week.
“I hope students have fun and create memories,” leadership teacher Danielle Driscol said. “These are the things they will remember from high school.”
With a full week of events, Homecoming Spirit Week offered a variety of opportunities for students to display and celebrate their school pride.
