On Aug. 21, the Lady Eagles volleyball team took on one of the most prestigious teams in our district. The ladies were defeated in both sets losing 23-25 in the first and 25-18 in the second.
“I am super proud of the team, we are just getting to know some of the new girls and overall we worked together really well,” libero (6) Julie Piedra said.
Piedra is a libero, defensive specialized player, and has been a starter on varsity since her freshman year.
This season, coach Cybill Johnson stepped up to the plate, replacing varsity coach Dave Palm. After a summer’s long practice, the girls were prepared both mentally and physically to take on Cardinal Gibbons.
It was an exciting game to watch. Right side hitter (10) Kaylee Nezwek had the most hits, tallying a total of six spikes.
“I could not believe I got the most hits. I have been working really hard to keep up our offense,” Nezwek said.
The final score for the third set was 25-19, resulting in the final defeat. Although this may be a loss for the Eagles, this does not mean they are off to a rocky start and they have high confidence in their season.
