MSD beat Doral Academy 4-3 in the regional quarterfinals at home after a scoreless game and overtime. The teams kicked five sets of penalty kicks to end the game.

“We really embraced the saying to ‘play every game like it’s our last’ because that really could’ve been the end for a lot of us. I’m so proud of our team and know we learned how important it is to stay relentless until the final whistle,” midfielder Taylor Le (21) said.

Goalie Ella Stevens (1) missed the block on the first kick, putting Doral up 1-0. Forward Alessia Frenquellucci (20) missed the first kick for MSD.

Stevens blocked the second penalty kick, and MSD forward Alexa Jourdan (6) made the second, tying the game at 1-1. Dorall Academy made their third penalty kick. MSD midfielder Emma McGregor made the third penalty kick, keeping the game tied at 2-2. Stevens blocked Doral’s fourth shot, yet MSD made theirs, leaving MSD up 3-2 going into the final kicks.

Doral made their fifth shot, and midfielder Sophia Dal Molin (4) made the final shot to win the game. MSD ultimately won 4-3.

MSD and Duval Academt remained tied after overtime, 0-0. The game goes to penalty kicks, where players kick penalty kicks five times each. Whoever makes the most wins. If it remains a tie, sudden death penalty kicks begin.

MSD and Duval Academy both did not score during regular time, so the game has gone to extra time. Teams will play two 10-minute halves. If the game remains scoreless, teams will shoot penalty kicks in an attempt to win the game.

Forward Breanna Gordon (22) was able to attempt a close shot on goal, but it was narrowly blocked in the corner by the Doral goalie. The score remains 0-0.
