MSD beat Doral Academy 4-3 in the regional quarterfinals at home after a scoreless game and overtime. The teams kicked five sets of penalty kicks to end the game.
“We really embraced the saying to ‘play every game like it’s our last’ because that really could’ve been the end for a lot of us. I’m so proud of our team and know we learned how important it is to stay relentless until the final whistle,” midfielder Taylor Le (21) said.
Goalie Ella Stevens (1) missed the block on the first kick, putting Doral up 1-0. Forward Alessia Frenquellucci (20) missed the first kick for MSD.
Stevens blocked the second penalty kick, and MSD forward Alexa Jourdan (6) made the second, tying the game at 1-1. Dorall Academy made their third penalty kick. MSD midfielder Emma McGregor made the third penalty kick, keeping the game tied at 2-2. Stevens blocked Doral’s fourth shot, yet MSD made theirs, leaving MSD up 3-2 going into the final kicks.
Doral made their fifth shot, and midfielder Sophia Dal Molin (4) made the final shot to win the game. MSD ultimately won 4-3.
