“Avengers: Endgame” brings fans to tears
April 30, 2019
On April 26, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s third phase came to an end. “Avengers: Endgame,” a continuation of the Avengers saga, was highly anticipated by many fans. The year between “Avengers: Infinity War” and this latest release was full of theories and possible plot spoilers. According to CNN, the film made an estimated $1.2 billion at the worldwide box office for its opening, according to Disney (DIS), becoming the only film in history to cross the $1 billion mark for its debut.
Fans of the franchise were completely terrified of the pressable deaths of older, more popular characters. There have been polls and Instagram accounts made to predict the events of the movie. Right before the premiere, the cast and directors shared the hashtag, #DontSpoilTheEndgame, all over social media.

Picking up after the events of “Infinity War,” the remaining Avengers must find Thanos, the big, the bad and the root cause of most of the Avengers’ conflicts, and destroy him. The final collaboration between many of the heroes involves not one but two captains, Captain Marvel, and Captain America to save the day.
What starts off as a rushed first fifteen minutes, quickly turns into a well-played-out few days after a five-year time jump. To add to that complicated storyline, time travel plays a large part within the movie. Just like with most movies involving time travel, trouble follows. Running into their past selves and letting some old villains lose, the Avengers are quick on their feet to fix things. In the end, the full force is released and the “Avengers assemble” for the final fight.
With tear-jerking goodbyes and sacrifices, also comes the handing down of legacies and symbols. These characters teach viewers to be strong and always keep fighting for the right thing, even when it is not the easiest thing to do.
Running at three hours and five minutes, fans attention never leaving the theater. Directing duo Joseph and Anthony Russo made what would normally be a confusing plotline very clear and consistent.
While this film is a last for many of the long-time cast, it is just the beginning for others. Characters like Captain Marvel, Spider-man and Black Panther all have sequels in the near future. In addition, many characters will have continuations on Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+.
While it is sad to see the last eleven years come to an end, it was truly an incredible “Endgame.”
