As the fall season approaches, several restaurants and popular food chains have announced the release of their fan-favorite fall specials, including the iconic Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks. Recently, Starbucks has announced this year’s fall menu with a new drink.

Starting on Monday, Aug. 23, Starbucks brought back their fall line-up consisting of the Pumpkin Spice Latte, Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew, Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino, Chai Tea Latte and Apple Crisp Macchiato, which come both iced or hot. The new apple drink is made with milk, brewed espresso and apple brown sugar syrup, topped with a spiced apple drizzle.

I decided to try the Starbucks fall menu for myself this year. Generally, I like pumpkin flavor, but have never been the biggest fan of the Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte, making me a bit biased.

I also tried the Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino, which was very sweet. This drink had a strong taste of cinnamon that flowed well with the pumpkin flavor. I actually enjoyed this drink more than I thought I would, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes pumpkin. It is a good flavor for anyone who enjoys something sweet.

The next drink from the new fall menu I tried was the Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew. In case you are not familiar with the term cold brew, it is a type of coffee that is brewed cold rather than hot. Cold brew is not the same as iced coffee as iced coffee is simply hot coffee, poured over ice. Cold brew is coffee made with direct coffee beans that are brewed in cold water for a span of 12-24 hours.

The Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew from Starbucks did not have a clear pumpkin taste, which kind of surprised me. Instead, it tasted more diluted with the taste of coffee and vanilla. I would recommend this drink to anyone who wants the thrill of a fall drink without a strong pumpkin flavor.

The third drink I tasted was the brand new Apple Crisp Macchiato, which comes cold or hot. A macchiato is a drink with a layer of steamed milk with espresso shots. Macchiatos tend to taste stronger than your regular coffee. The Apple Crisp Macchiato from Starbucks had a taste of brown sugar.

The apple flavor was not noticeable until my drink got closer to the end as the bottom of the cup had caramelized spiced apple drizzle. The coffee flavor definitely was apparent on this drink too. I would recommend this to any apple fan who enjoys the taste of brown sugar and coffee.

The fourth drink I drank was the Chai Tea Latte. I have had this before and did not love it nor dislike it. The Chai Tea Latte is black tea with cinnamon and other spices topped with steamed milk. When drinking it, you can definitely taste the cinnamon and other spices mixed together to create this drink. I would recommend this to anyone who favors something apparent with its flavor of cinnamon but doesn’t like something too sweet.

Last but not least, I tried the iconic Pumpkin Spice Latte. The Pumpkin Spice Latte drink debuted in 2003, coming out in 100 stores in Vancouver and Washington D.C. After it gained its popularity, Starbucks added it to their fall lineup and was available all over the United States. The Pumpkin Spice Latte later became an internet phenomenon where people all over the world made up a stereotype where girls, referred to as “PSL girls,” wore Ugg boots and leggings during the fall season.

A few years ago, I did not understand the hype for the Pumpkin Spice Latte, but this year, I decided to give it another try and enjoyed it much more than I expected. The drink has an obvious pumpkin flavor that gets you into the fall spirit after each sip. I would recommend this drink to any hardcore pumpkin fan.

After trying all the new fall drinks I can definitely say this is a solid fall menu. I feel that Starbucks hits every spot making sure there is something for everyone, having the hardcore pumpkin drinks, drinks more on cinnamon and spice side, drinks that give you a small taste of fall while tasting like a regular coffee and a drink that gives us an unfamiliar taste of apple.

Out of all the drinks on this year’s fall lineup, I think I would have to say I enjoyed the Pumpkin Spice Latte the most, which really shocks me because in the past years I haven’t been the biggest fan of it. Every single one of these drinks puts you in the perfect autumn spirit, so go try them before the season is over!
