With the start of this fall season, many people are excited for all the fall classics and new movies the Halloween season has to offer. Most movies and series are currently being streamed on one of the many watch platforms, such as Netflix, Hulu, Disney+ and HBO max.

1. “Halloween Returns” came out in 2018 and is the remake of the classic “Halloween” movie. This horror movie features the iconic Michael Myers, a fictional character who murders his older sister and returns on Halloween after being locked up in an institution. Throughout the movie you see Myers go on his trip back in town while children are trick-or-treating, leaving many victims on his path. This is a movie that will keep you on edge and wanting to see more.

2. “A Nightmare On Elm Street” is an older horror movie that is popular during the Halloween season for teens and adults. This film is about four teenagers who live in Springwood, Ohio that are mysteriously killed in their dreams that transfer to real life. This is a trippy holiday movie that will leave any viewer wondering.

3. “Halloweentown” is a Disney classic perfect for all ages. It is about three children who follow their grandmother home to find out she lives in a mysterious town with supernatural creatures called Halloweentown. The children discover several shocking events about their family while exploring. This is a great movie for children, or anyone who just wants to watch something fun and light-hearted, compared to other Halloween movies that are typically horror and gore.

4. “House On Haunted Hill” is a 1999 horror movie that can give anyone creeps. This movie is about five people who make an agreement to spend the night at a haunted house for money; little do they know that survival may be out of the picture. This movie is perfect for anyone looking for a thrill on Halloween night that will definitely leave them shakey.

5. “Hocus Pocus” is a family friendly movie that contains humor and twists. When three witches return to Salem, they cast a spell on the town to become young again, but this comes with a price: to take others’ youth to get their own. This is a film packed with chaos and is sure to get anyone in the holiday spirit.

6. “The Addams Family” has been remade several times, but the original will always be the best version. It is a light and funny Halloween film. When Uncle Fester, played by Jackie Coogan, returns after 20 years of absence, the family’s plan to “wake the dead” takes a turn when they realize that Uncle Fester has been acting “normal.” To the Addams family, normal is unusual. The family then questions if this could be a fake Uncle Fester. This is a good movie for most ages who want a laugh.

7. “Scream” is a horror, Halloween classic that manages to make you laugh and be scared at the same time. When a sudden unusual death falls upon a small town, a friend group becomes a target for the masked killer. This classic is perfect for any teen or adult and will leave you in suspense.

Jim, the real estate agent, is asked to sell a house on his trip and is soon to find out it is haunted. This is a great movie for children that features fantasy and comedy.

9. “Nightmare Before Christmas” is a Disney musical fantasy. In the fantasy town, Jack the Pumpkin King leads everyone in a Halloween tradition every year; but this year he decides to try something new by opening a portal to a so-called Christmas Town. Many events take place and as the citizens want something different from their regular Halloween town they decide to take over Christmas town. This is an enjoyable family movie for all ages.

10. “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” is a fall/Halloween classic! This family movie is great for all ages and puts you in the fall spirit. It is one of the multiple Charlie Brown movies, and features the Charlie Brown gang partaking in various fall activities, like trick-or-treating and apple bobbing. All in all, there is a wide variety of Halloween movies from horror to comedy to make sure there is something for everyone to enjoy and get into the holiday spirit with. Even with life returning to normalcy after having to stay in for Halloween last year due to COVID-19, there is still always time to sit back and enjoy your favorite Halloween film.
