Every two years Disney hosts its biggest convention, known as D23. D23 is an enormous expo event that serves as an information hub. It provides updates on the new cutting-edge entertainment coming to Disney in the next several years, including current projects and plans. From Aug. 9-11 of this year, Disney showcased their newest creations, ranging from attractions to movies, to fans and viewers across the world.
Chairman of Disney Parks Orlando, Josh D’Amaro, announced news at D23 that sparked the excitement of thousands of spectators at the convention and in the Disney community; multiple new attractions and expansions will be installed at Walt Disney World over the course of a few years. The attractions that will be coming to Orlando include a “Monsters, Inc.” ride, an “Encanto” ride, an “Exciting Adventures of Indiana Jones” ride and two “Cars” rides.
“I can’t wait, I’m so excited. I think the rides are going to be amazing,” freshman Zoey Green said.
The “Monsters, Inc.” ride will be a rollercoaster that takes guests on a thrilling journey through the door vaults–doors that lead to different rooms in which monsters scare characters–seen in the movie. These door vaults will serve as the way fans are able to transport through particular rooms. The “Monsters, Inc.” ride will be placed in Hollywood Studios. The attraction’s building is expected to begin in 2025.
The “Encanto” ride will be an immersive boat ride that takes people through a lagoon filled with mystical creatures. The “Encanto” ride will be installed in Animal Kingdom. Construction is expected to start this fall, and the ride will be open for the public in 2027.
The “Exciting Adventures of Indiana Jones” ride will be a rollercoaster that takes fans on an action-packed mission through the jungle with Indiana Jones. This ride will be featured in Animal Kingdom. Construction is expected to start this fall. There are speculations that the cherished Dino Land attraction in Animal Kingdom will be demolished and replaced by the Indiana Jones ride and “Encanto” ride when construction occurs.
“I’ll miss Dinosaur land, but I’m ready for the new rides,” freshman Gianna Carbone said.
There seems to be mixed feelings about how Disney is creating major revamps that will alter a great number of things throughout Disney parks.
“At Disney Experiences, we invest in stories that stand the test of time and bring them to life in ways that surprise our guests and fans everyday,” D’Amaro said at D23. “We are building a villain’s land in Magic Kingdom. It will have two major attractions.”
Villains land will be placed behind Frontierland, a new part of one of the lands in Magic Kingdom. It will be gloomy, dark and consist of rides inspired by many of the villains seen throughout Disney films. Disney does not yet have a date for when construction will begin or be completed.
There will also be a major update to Disney’s Frontierland. The Disney movie “Cars” will now be a part of the land, featuring two attractions. One ride will take guests on a racing journey through mud, past mountains and snowy views. The second attraction is a ride made for children that will allow them to race each other through Frontierland. Construction will start at the beginning of next year.
There are a lot of new attractions being installed at Disney, but that is not all that is on its way. A series of new movies are being released soon. The “Avatar” movie series, known for its beautiful cinematography, is coming out with a third movie called “Avatar Fire and Ash.”
“I’m pretty excited for ‘Avatar Fire and Ash’ to come out. I’ve always liked the movies,” freshman Alex Chupashov said.
There are also going to be “Lilo and Stitch” and “Snow White” live action remakes. Lastly, “Incredibles 3,” “Moana 2,” “Toy Story 5” and “Mufasa: The Lion King” will all be a part of the new movies coming to Disney within the span of 2025-2030.
From the variety of rides to choose from to the entertainment and lifelike characters, Disney strives to create a world that people of any age can relate to. These convention expos serve as a premier to keep people on the edge of their seat in anticipation for the next Disney spectacular. Fans now have to anxiously wait on this imaginary rollercoaster until these plans come to life.
