Customizable food seems to be all the rage right now, and pizza is just one of the foods people are starting to get crafty with. Instead of the traditional mozzarella, tomato sauce and crust, restaurants like Pieology are putting together unique food combinations with pizza.
As a chain restaurant, Pieology first opened a store in Coral Springs, Florida in August of 2017. The company, owned by Panda Express, first made its debut in 2010 in California.
When walking in, the restaurant is clean and open with a casual, modern look. The workers are generally quick to greet their customers with welcoming personalities.
The restaurant features a glass window where customers go up to order, similar to those at a Chipotle or Subway.
The menu is filled with a variety of options, including chef-inspired pies, such as “smokin’ buffalo chicken,” “zesty artichoke” and “spicy Italian.” They also have garlic breads, churro pizzas, which taste better than they sound, and of course the customizable pies and salads. With many beverage options including fountain sodas, iced teas, lemonades, apple juice, milk, sparkling beverages and water, Pieology offers a more diverse menu than the typical pizza restaurant.
I ordered a customizable pie on normal dough, which was thinner than I had expected, with herb butter and tomato sauce, mozzarella and parmesan cheese and added roasted red peppers, grape tomatoes, broccoli, spinach and chicken.
The price was very reasonable given the size of the meal. For a customizable pie, it was $8.45, which is pretty standard for a personal pan pizza in most similar Italian restaurants.
The wait is slightly longer than expected given the fast food-like environment with about 15 minutes for the pizza to arrive. The pizza makes up for the wait because it looks beautiful and tastes fresh and delicious. Its crust is thinner than average, but it added a nice crunch to the unique flavor combinations on top of the pie. While the pizza is not large in size, it is extremely filling.
Taking everything into consideration between the quality food, the clean environment and the exemplary service, I would rate Pieology a nine out of 10. Although the menu pricing was not outstanding, the food was unique and tasty, leaving customers wanting to return. For pizza lovers looking to enjoy a unique pizza experience, Pieology is definitely be the place to be.
