Homecoming dance was worth the wait

A hurricane, two spirit weeks and many home games later, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School finally enjoyed its annual homecoming dance. The event took place on Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort in Fort Lauderdale. After a disappointing loss at the homecoming game against Plantation High School on Friday, students had a chance to let loose for a night.

The dance was preceded by a repeat spirit week, which followed the Red Ribbon dress-up days from the previous week. Monday was wacky sock day, Tuesday was Pirates vs. Tourists, Wednesday was wacky dress day, and the celebration was concluded with color wars, or “All Hands on Deck,” on Friday.

Many people were unable to attend the homecoming dance due to other commitments, creating  refund chaos. Some of the other events going on included a band competition, a DECA leadership convention, a drama production of “Fiddler on the Roof” and the Florida Scholastic Press Association convention, all of which involved large on-campus organizations. However, turnout was still high, and MSD students filled the room with dancing, laughing and joyful shouts.
