by

On Oct. 3, the women’s cross country team had their third meet. This meet was held at Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek at 4:00 p.m.

The team got first place out of all the schools with a total of 34 points. The majority of the team, including men and women, achieved new personal records and had their all time best run.

“The meet went really good. The girls came in first overall and boys came in second overall, and lots of personal records were made,” sophomore Monique Miguel said.

Captain Alyssa Fletcher came in first place with a time of 21.55. She was followed by junior Gabby Rumasuglia who came in second with a time of 22.04. Junior Jesika Van Welie came in third with a time of 22.12.

Junior Kayla Sanseverino finished in 24.06. Sophomore Monique Miquel finished in 25.32. Sophomore AnnaGrace Myers finished in 28.02. Senior Rachel Miashowski finished in 29.23. Junior Arantxa Bojorquez finished 29.57. Junior Damar Sierra finished in 31.44. Junior Maddy Wilford finished 35.19.

“The majority of our team, girls and boys, got personal records today which is amazing,” Fletcher said.

The team was against Coral Springs High School, Coconut Creek High School, Coral Glades High School, Coral Springs Charter, Coral Springs Christian, Monarch High School and J.P.  Taravella High School.

At first the weather for today’s meet was cool with a slight Florida breeze. The clouds started to roll in and the air got cooler worrying the runners about the meet.

“It’s beautiful running weather, there is a stiff breeze coming out of the south, south west,” Coach Scott Beigel said.

Then the weather grew grey and cloudy. The wind was strong but still manageable for the runners. Slight and short showers past but the meet still went on and the runners continued through the course.

“The weather was not too hot which definitely helped us; however, there was a strong wind that we had to run against that was challenging but we overcame it,” Fletcher said.

Beigel was there cheering and coaching the team along side others. Principal Ty Thompson was also there supporting the team at the starting line as well as the finish line. Parents, coaches and teammates could be heard throughout the course cheering for the runners.

“This sport takes some serious dedication,” Beigel said.

Before the team started, they all took group pictures, stretched and participated in a team cheer. The meet was scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m. The team made their way to the starting line at 4:25 p.m. They finally started and took off from the starting line at 4:33 p.m.

“I like weekday meets over weekend meets.” Coach Beigel said.

Some meets are held on the weekends and some are held Monday through Friday. The past few meets have been during the week. Occasionally, there are meets on the weekends for the team.

“I don’t really prefer a weekday meet over a weekend meet,” Fletcher said.

The next meet is the BCAA Championship on Thursday, Oct. 12 at Markham Park at 3:30 p.m.
