[Brief] JV and varsity volleyball teams defeat JP Taravella

On Thursday, Sept. 15, the women’s junior varsity and varsity volleyball  teams played matches at home at 4:30 p.m. The teams played against local rival, J.P. Taravella High School.

According to setter Danielle Gilbert, the varsity team was excited to play Taravella because they felt the had a good chance at defeating them. Gilbert encouraged the other players, telling them, “I’m ready, I know we got this, let’s go.”

The match began with JV, and they played two sets, winning both times. The first set score was 25-23, and the second set was 25-14.

The varsity women played right after the JV sets ended. With outstanding plays by outside hitter Sienna Ciudad and middle hitter Jessica Lopresti, the team was able secure a substantial lead. Both women dominated the outside and middle. As well, setter Brooke Lohuis set perfectly and kept the ball high in the air, giving the other players the opportunity to jump in and score. As a result of these efforts, they won their final set with a score of 25-13.

“It was a very exciting game to watch and see what the girls love to do,” parent Lorraine Gilbert said.
