[Brief] Women’s golf team falls flat to Archbishop McCarthy

On Sept. 22, the women’s golf team took on the Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks at the Grand Palms golf course in Pembroke Pines. Par was 36 and the teams played 9 holes and the Eagles fell flat to the Mavericks with a final score of 148-155. Although the team fell to the Mavericks by seven points, the team will travel to Sebring Sunday night where they hope to do well at the Crutchfield Hawkins Invitational on Monday.

I hope we go to states, we need to work together more as a group and focus on improving our motivations and mindsets when we go into games,” third year varsity player, Natalie Toops said.

The team had solid performances andTaylor Roberts and Makayla Chau were the only players who scored under 30. Captain Amanda Okulanis came in close behind with a score of 40, while Natalie Toops followed closely with a total of 43. Allie Schuller and Grace Thornberg rounded the Eagles out with scores both under 50 but it was not enough to overpower the Mavericks who had scores ranging from 36 to 43.

” The girls really want to make it to states; that’s the goal; that’s been the goal since the start of the season, we all want it really bad,” Amanda Okulanis said.

Overall the Eagles have maintained a steady record this year and hope to keep improving with every game and each new match.
