MSD Hockey Secures big win on Senior Night

Friday, Jan. 23 was senior night for Marjory Stoneman Douglas varsity ice hockey team and with coming into the game 11-5-1, MSD had a dedication to winning the game for its relatively sizable collection of senior teammates.

This home matchup was the last of the year at the Ice Den and saw the Eagles face off with Archbishop McCarthy.

Although MSD was a heavy favorite, pre-game senior presentations and potential expectations left the Eagles quite overzealous and they struggled early.

Trading a pair of goals each way, Stoneman Douglas Eagles found themselves in a dog fight with their opposition, a tight 2-2 game.

However, MSD dug deep for their seniors and pulled off a huge three goal tear in the waning minutes of the third period.

“In this night, we needed to come away with a win for our seniors and thankfully we were able to in the end,” junior Corey Bukowki (68) said.

The 5-2 victory gives MSD its twelfth win of the season and steadies them in a prime playoff spot with just two games left in the regular season.

The next match for the Eagles will take place at the Lake Worth Arena on Sunday, Jan. 26 against Boca Raton High. Game 19 for MSD will surely be a key one in setting the tone for polishing off the season right.
