[Brief] Women’s cross country team places ninth at Spanish River XC Invitational

On Sept. 23, the Stoneman Douglas women’s cross country team had their first meet of the season at South County Regional Park in Boca Raton. The meet was the 34th Annual Spanish River XC Invitational, where more than 100 runners competed at once.

The first meet, which was supposed to be held earlier this month, was canceled due to Hurricane Irma.

Junior Gabby Rumasuglia finished first for the women with a time of 00:22:19.43 followed by captain Alyssa Fletcher with a time of 00:22:38.05. The team finished ninth overall.

“The meet was hot, but it was our first one since others were cancelled so overall, it was a great beginning and the team is excited to see how we will end the season based off of today,” Fletcher said.

Their next meet will be held at Markham Park on Sept. 26 at 4:00 p.m.
