[Brief] Pine Trails Park holds a community commemoration to honor the Feb. 14 victims

On Wednesday, Feb. 14, Pine Trails Park is holding a community commemoration to honor the 17 victims of the 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. The commemoration will begin at 5:30 p.m. and is open to everyone.

Pine Trails Park has been hosting the event annually since the tragedy and it is run by spiritual leaders.

There is a memorial wall with photos of the victims including an area to write messages. Therapy dogs will be at the event and support services will also be offered.

The entire event will be livestreamed for those who could not attend on The City of Parkland’s social media pages.

A video plays after the commemoration to honor the victims with a drum circle.

“Congestion may increase in mid-afternoon and become unusually heavy shortly after—with the potential to create significant delays at the park,” a statement by the City of Parkland said.

Due to expected congestion around the park, motorists are encouraged to carpool. There will most likely be heavy traffic mid-afternoon when the event starts as well as when the commemoration ends.
