Broward County Public Schools has scheduled a Take a Child to Work Day on Thurs., April 23. Students who plan to participate must submit a completed field trip form to the front office by Fri., April 17 at 2:40 p.m. Grades K-1 are unable to participate as the field trip is only permitted for grades 2-12.
“I have twins and I’ve been bringing them to Take a Child to Work Day,” English teacher Jaime Lyons said. “My daughter loves to hang out in my classroom and see all my friends. My daughter has played review games with [my students] on the board, things like that, organizing.”
The experience allows students to experience the workforce and understand the skill and knowledge required for different fields of work.
“Take a Child to Work Day is an opportunity for students to see the possibilities that await them beyond the classroom,” BCPS Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn said. “When students engage with professionals and observe the workplace firsthand, they gain valuable insight into how education, skills and determination can open doors to future career success.”
This year’s BCPS theme, “Take a Child to Work Day and Beyond – The Future is @ Work,” is said to encourage students to think about their futures.
