The Mentoring Tomorrow’s Leaders (MTL) program held an induction ceremony in the auditorium at 4 p.m. on Nov. 14. During this event, new students were recognized for accomplishments, such as their academic achievements and their ability to help mentor their peers. MTL members and inductees all took an oath at this ceremony, giving their word that they would not break the rules of the club.

MTL is a peer-to-peer mentoring group that pairs students who struggle with academics in some areas with someone who is stronger in those subjects. The mentor and the mentee meet throughout the week to discuss these topics; it helps to boost the mentee’s academic scores.

The initial purpose of the group was to boost graduation rates in underperforming schools. Due to the success of the program, the group started to spread to other campuses.

“The purpose is to help those who are maybe struggling academically, or even socially, by pairing them up with someone who is able to help them to navigate them through those little challenges,” job coach and MTL adviser Calvin Lamar said. “Some students have an easier time than others, and that’s the purpose of mentoring tomorrow’s leaders.”

Colonel Nichole Anderson, a 27-year veteran of the Broward Sheriff’s Office, arrived at this ceremony as a guest speaker and gave a speech to attending students and staff at the ceremony. This was the first induction ceremony for this club for the 2025-2026 school year. At the end of this event, 21 new members were officially inducted into the program, beginning their path toward making a positive impact on their campus and peers.
