Varsity football team claims first win of the season

On Thursday, Sept. 29, the men’s varsity football team claimed their first victory of the season when they traveled to Northeast High and defeated the Hurricanes by a score of 19-14.

With two losses to begin the year, the Eagles were hungry for their first win. After last week’s 49-0 loss to Cardinal Gibbons, the Eagles locker room was full of emotion.

“It gets very testy in there,” said injured wide receiver Tai Lehtio (88). “We were dying to turn this season around and show what we could do.”

The Eagles offense was anchored by rushing touchdowns from Christian Alcocer (7) and Jordan Gray (8). Two two-point conversions gave them their lead, and a late field goal cemented the Eagles’ win.

The Eagles will have to play two games in four days due to rescheduling from Hurricane Irma.

On Tuesday, Oct. 3, the Eagles will travel to Piper High to battle it out with the Bengals. Then, on Friday, Oct. 6, they will play Coral Springs High in the annual Pig Bowl.
