On March 16, the men’s junior varsity baseball team went up against North Broward Preparatory School in a nine inning baseball game.

The final score of the first game was 9-8. By the fourth inning North Broward was leading by eight runs. The Eagles did fight hard and made a late game rally, but in the end it just wasn’t enough. The Eagles got out hit by North Broward 11 hits to eight. The North Broward pitcher struck out five through the first four innings and only allowed three hits and one run.

“This game we got off to a slow start and our pitchers got hit around too much and our offense just wasn’t strong enough throughout the game,” coach Max Boling said.

The starting pitcher for the Eagles was Derek Rodriguez (12), who is a right-handed freshman. Rodriguez is looking forward to having a strong year so he can make a big impact on the varsity level next year. Rodriguez allowed four runs and then was relieved by Aiden Williams (23). Williams threw strikes, but unfortunately got hit around and the defense made costly errors.

“We fought but it was too little too late and we were not able to stay consistent with our offense,” catcher Tyler Novik (8) said.

On March 19, the team will play a home game against American Heritage School.
