National Honor Society members seniors Jack Lickerman and David Itingen tutor junior Brian Gelske for the math portion of the SAT. The National Honor Society held their first tutoring session of the year after school in room 423 on Tuesday, Sept. 26.

[Brief] MSD Honor Societies start tutoring sessions to help out struggling students

National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta, an honor society for math, are both hosting tutoring sessions after school in the media center to help students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

MAO is hosting student-to-student tutoring for any subject and level in math, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, precalculus, calculus and statistics. This event will be taking place after school from 2:45-3:45 p.m. on Wednesdays.

NHS is also hosting tutoring sessions for any subject after school in room 423, on Tuesdays, from 2:45-3:45 p.m.

These free tutoring sessions allow students to get help in the subjects that they struggle with. NHS and MAO members sit down one-on-one with students helping them out with their work.

“I feel that tutoring from fellow students, rather than adults, allows the tutoring to become easier and feel less like having another teacher, and more like just getting help from a friend.” sophomore and MAO member Joshua Brown said.

Students will have the opportunity to feel more open and engage more with peer-to-peer tutoring from these societies. This opportunity provides students to receive help with academics free of charge. Students who are in NHS and MAO will receive service hours and club hours for helping struggling students with their work.

MAO and NHS will continue to help students with their struggles in academics with the tutoring sessions that are held after school. Students must fill out the tutoring permission slip before they are able to attend.
